Cabin Heating

Not having a wasteful gas engine to provide heating from its coolant loop, an electric vehicle must have an active means of generating heat for the cabin. The usual way this is done is through ceramic "PTC" (Positive Temperature Coefficient) resistive heating elements commonly found in consumer electric space heaters. The Ohmbre project will employ this method, though some challenges will be inevitable due to the unusually high system voltage.

The usual suspects. On the left is an $18 ceramic space heater from Target, already disassembled. The other two were $11 each, from an eBay seller.

This piece is the goal when taking these heaters apart. What you see here are four rows of 1/8" thick ceramic slabs, sandwiched between aluminum heatsinks...

When they're all apart, the result is three elements, ready to be hacked into a new heater core.
